What to Expect...

My job here at LCMS is to help bridge the gap that some students have in their reading comprehension test scores.  I primarily work with 6th graders coming from the elementary schools.  I will meet your child at his or her reading level and help build that reading level to where it needs to be.  We use a multi-sensory reading program called Phonics First and a reading comprehension program from Fountas and Pinnell called Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI).

We will work in very small groups to maintain social distancing and to ensure each child gets individual instruction.

READ! READ! READ!
As a reading teacher, my number one recommendation to students to become better readers is to...oh, you know...READ! Try to read for AT LEAST 20 minutes per day.  We cannot become better at anything if we don't practice.  Reading is not excluded from this rule.  Your student can read anything they choose: magazines, comic books, blogs, etc.  Their English teacher will agree with me...they need to read!
Classroom Rules

When students are in my room I expect them to follow these rules:

1. No cell phones/ear buds.

2. Do not put your hands on anyone for any reason...EVER.

3. No cursing or offensive language.

4. Sit in your assigned seat.

5. Respect your teachers, classmates, and yourself.

Not adhering to these rules will result in a referral to the office.

About Me

Education
I have lived in DeSoto County my entire life. I grew up in Lake Cormorant and graduated from Horn Lake High School in 2003. I went on to Northwest Mississippi Community College for my first two years and finished at the University of Mississippi DeSoto center.  I graduated with a Bachelor's of Business Administration.  I decided that teaching was the career path I wanted to take so I completed the MAPQT alternate route for my certification.

Bio
I was born and raised in DeSoto County. Most of my early childhood was spent in Lake Cormorant until we moved to Horn Lake in my middle school years.  Shortly after graduating college, I married my husband.  We are blessed with beautiful twin girls who just turned 7 years old.  My mother has been a teacher my entire life, so education is in my blood.  I was taught from an early age that reading is the key to learning.  This job is perfect for me! This will be my second year teaching at LCMS.
