Subject: 8th Grade Science

The first week of school is very important.  The students will go over rules and procedures for Science from how to enter the classroom to assigned seats to how to complete classwork, homework, tests, etc.

The students will have to keep an organized science binder.  The binder will be graded each nine weeks, increasing by 100 points.  (1st Nine Weeks =100;  2nd Nine Weeks =200;  3rd Nine Weeks=300;  4th Nine Weeks=400)  It is very important that the students are organized and keep up with everything that is given to them throughout the 2017-2018 school year.

The students will receive detailed information of how to organize their notes, classwork, tests, bell works, etc.  They will see an example of each.

The students will come home on August 3 with instructions for remind 101, materials for science class, dates for binder check, etc.

Parents, please sign necessary documents and return on August 4, 2017.

Balance Equations Test
Due Date: 10/24/2012
Subject: 8th Grade Science

Students will take their test on balancing equations.  They have a total of 25 items plus a 15 point bonus question which is optional.

The students grades were not as good as I had anticipated so I decided to give the graded test back to them and we discussed the rules for balancing and the students let me know that it wasn't that they didn't know the rules, they need more time.  So, more time is what I gave them on October 26th.  We spent class time on October 25th discussing rules and allowing students to ask questions.

Over the weekend, the students are to study.  If they do not pass, they will have 5 equations to balance on Monday and they can keep the highest of the two grades.

Newton's Laws of Motion:

1.  An object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion maintains its velocity unless it experiences an unbalanced force. (Law of Inertia)

2.  The unbalanced force acting on an object equals the object's mass times its acceleration. (Law of Acceleration)

Newton's Laws of Motion Activities
Due Date: 9/14/2012
Subject: 8th Grade Science

Newton's Laws of Motion Activities:

September 14, 2012:  Students will discuss Newton's 1st Law - An object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion maintains its velocity unless it experiences an unbalanced force.  (Law of Inertia)

Scenarios will be given

Homework:  Study Newton's 1st Law

September 17, 2012:  Students will receive Newton's 2nd Law - The unbalanced force acting on an object equals the object's mass times its acceleration. (Law of Acceleration)

Formula:  F=ma

              Force = mass X acceleration
